William Nixon, the 19-year-old son of William and Sarah Nixon, was mortally wounded in the Netherlands and died on March 6, 1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart and is buried at the United States Military Cemetery in Margraten, Eijsden-Margraten Municipality, Limburg, Netherlands.
William enlisted in the U. S. Army during World War II on April 10, 1944, and was sent overseas in November. He served with the armored infantry in the Battle of the Bulge from December 1944 to January 1945, on the Western Front which was the last major German offensive campaign.
Nixon was born on October 13, 1925. He attended Bratenahl School, Kirk Junior High School, and Shaw High School. He was always fond of sports, especially baseball and basketball. They were the focus of his life except for a part-time job after school. After high school, he worked at Hickock Electric on East 105th Street.
