William Nixon, the 19-year-old son of William and Sarah Nixon, was mortally wounded in Germany and died on March 6, 1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart and interred at the United States Military Cemetery in Margraten, Eijsden-Margraten Municipality, Limburg, Netherlands.

William enlisted in the U. S. Army during World War II on April 10, 1944, and was sent overseas in November. He served with the 49th Infantry Battalion 8th Armoured Division and fought in the Battle of the Bulge from December 1944 to January 1945 on the Western Front, which was the last major German offensive campaign.

William John Nixon Jr. was born on October 13, 1925. His education included Bratenahl School, Kirk Junior High School, and Shaw High School. Sports were the focus of his life, especially baseball and basketball. After high school, he worked at Hickock Electric on East 105th Street.
