David Dornback - Director of Dornback Furnace
10201 Lake Shore Boulevard
David Dornback lived his entire life in Bratenahl, dedicated to public service. He was first elected to Bratenahl Village Council in 1976 and served for 28 years until 2003. His committee assignments included the Planning Commission, Public Improvements, Finance, and Public Safety.
He was scoutmaster of Bratenahl’s Troop 301, a youth counselor at the YMCA, a pioneer member of the Bratenahl Villagers (precursor to today’s Recreation Committee). Thirty-one years were spent at Dornback Furnace, starting in the stockroom and working up to a corporate director. He then spent 20 years of retailing with Brooks Brothers in Tower City Center in Cleveland.
David Allen Dornback and his fraternal twin brother, Donald Lee, were born on July 19, 1929, and attended Bratenahl School. David went on to Kirk Junior High School, followed by graduation from Shaw High School. His graduation party at the William Dornback home was so successful that The Plain Dealer wrote a story. Following high school, he graduated from Kent State University.
He married Ann Hayden. They had three children: David Jr., John, and Elisabeth (Young).
David, a Bratenahl resident for over 60 years, died on February 18, 2016, and is buried in Lake View Cemetery.
