He was active in company affairs until two weeks before his death.<\/p>\n<p>William H. Smith was born on February 5, 1871, in England. He came to the United States when he was 20 years old and obtained work with the George Worthington Company as an order filler. He had risen to a salesman position and left Worthington nine years later to join the new W. M. Pattison Supply Company as a vice-president. In 1926, he became president, succeeding the late Wallace M. Pattison. He also became the president of the Ohio Foundry Company.<\/p>\n<p>Smith was interested in civic affairs, belong to the Cleveland Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the City Club for twenty-five years. Social memberships included the Cleveland Athletic Club and the Union Club.<\/p>\n<p>His wife, Bernadine, died on May 27, 1944. William died just six weeks later, on July 12, 1944, at the Cleveland Clinic.
