Bratenahl celebrated its 100th anniversary with three separate events, including for those who had moved away but would like to return for a celebration of the special occasion. Event planners specifically chose the three affairs to appeal to a wide range of ages and interests. A Gracious Evening in Olde Bratenahl<\/strong><\/p>\n Judi and Tom Embrescia hosted a grand event with \u201cDancing Under the Stars\u201d on Saturday, September 17, 2005, at their 12 Hanna Court home. The evening offered gourmet food stations, a full bar complete with a champagne toast, live music with dancing to Gershwin, Cole Porter, and Frank Sinatra. Notable residents presented historical highlights of what life in Bratenahl was like over the 100 years.<\/p>\n Mr. Embrescia personally greeted the estimated 400 guests as they entered the home. Those attending were welcome to tour throughout the magnificently restored mansion.<\/p>\n Old Fashioned Town Picnic<\/strong><\/p>\n Entire families gathered at Bratenahl Park on Sunday, September 18, 2005, for an old-fashioned cookout, including fun and food. The event featured great live music by the Ted Desantis Band, a 14-piece, big-time swing band who performed in the Village gazebo. \u201cPreferred seating\u201d on bales of hay were brought in for young people. The day consisted of old-fashioned sack races and the like. There were horse-drawn carriage rides through the Village with narrations spotlighting particular \u201cpoints of interest.\u201d The Village-wide event featured fried chicken, home-baked pies, and checkered tablecloths.<\/p>\n Afternoon Tea<\/strong><\/p>\n For those who longed for the simpler days, there was an opportunity to slow down and catch up with the neighbors and share tea, finger sandwiches, and fabulous pastries. Peter and Vicky Broer hosted this adult event on Saturday, October 8, 2005, at their grand historic Lake Shore Boulevard home.
