Rob Roy Alexander practiced law with Alexander & Dawley in Cleveland from 1908 to 1911.\u00a0 He became a trust officer with the Cleveland Trust Company from 1911 to 1921.\u00a0 Upon leaving Cleveland Trust, Rob established the investment counseling firm of R. R. Alexander & Co. It was later expanded and became known as Alexander, Van Cleef, Jordan & Wood, Inc.\u00a0 Upon his retirement in 1960, Rob was chairman of the board of directors of the investment company and its past president.<\/p>\n

Rob Roy Alexander was born on June 30, 1878, in Minerva, Ohio to Joseph and Eleanor Alexander. He was educated at Phillips Exeter Academy, received a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University, and received an LL.B. from Harvard Law School in 1907. At Harvard, he was a classmate of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.<\/p>\n

Rob was a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity. Social clubs included the Cleveland Athletic, Country, Harvard, and Mid-Day clubs. Rob was an accomplished pianist, a composer and a member of the Singers Club, the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America and several choral groups.<\/p>\n

Rob Alexander died on April 1, 1966, in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Rob’s wife, the former Gertrude Allison, died on April 16, 1975. Gertrude Alexander was the past president of the College Club of Cleveland and of the Alumnae Association of Flora Stone Mather College of Western Reserve University.\u00a0 She was a member of the Union Club.\u00a0 Both Rob and Gertrude are buried in Lake View Cemetery.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tBack to People\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tResidents List\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
