Tuesday, October 8, 1991 – Nancy Bien was leaving work and looking forward to an appointment to have her hair done and meet a friend at Tower City. As she stepped from the curb to cross Ontario Street at St. Clair Avenue, she was hit by a bus and suffered crushing injuries. She was later pronounced dead at St. Vincent Charity Hospital and Health Center.<\/p>\n
Police accident investigators said a controller directing rush-hour traffic waved the westbound Cleveland Southeastern Trails bus to turn left into Ontario Street’s southbound lanes. There was no oncoming traffic from the west. The bus driver told police he felt a bump halfway through the turn. He stopped the bus to check and found Bien under the bus near the left rear wheels. No charges were filed against the bus driver.<\/p>\n
Nancy and her husband, Robert, had just purchased their Bratenahl home a year earlier on July 17, 1990.<\/p>\n
Nancy was a native of New York City and had worked in public relations in San Francisco and elsewhere. She came to Cleveland in 1988 to become director of public relations for the law firm of Jones Day Reavis & Pogue.<\/p>\n
She was a graduate of Smith College and earned a master\u2019s degree in psychology from the University of Massachusetts.<\/p>\n
