He married Ina Florence Pitkin who was born in 1858 to Lucas and Sarah Pitkin. They had four children: Terry Pitkin, Robert Varney, Emily Louise (Devereux), and Lucius Josiah. Emily left Cleveland in the 1920s to live in Nice, France. Lucius was a 2nd lieutenant in the U. S. Army and gained worldwide fame for helping to put down the 1926 Nicaraguan revolution.<\/p>\n<p>Clay was a venture capitalist, sportsman and active member of the Republican Party.<\/p>\n<p>Ina died on September 9, 1924, of carcinoma of the rectum. Oliver died on June 24, 1931, of cardiac paralysis.
